Overview

Employment Type: Permanent Full Time / Part Time. Position Classification: Registered Nurse. Location: Maitland Hospital. Hours per Week: 38. Remuneration: S36.38 - $51.08 per hour + 12% super + Salary packaging. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

About the role: The Maitland Hospital Emergency Department (ED) attends to a significant number of patients daily, spanning various age groups and presenting issues. The department has a collaborative, multidisciplinary team and strong support for professional development. A Clinical Nurse Unit Manager guides each shift, complemented by a team of Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Nurse Practitioners. The ED works with doctors, nurses, administration staff, social workers, physiotherapists, pharmacists, occupational therapists, and ancillary staff to deliver patient‑centred care. The department is overseen by a Nurse Unit Manager, Medical Co-Directors, and an Operational Nurse Manager for Critical Care.

Safe staffing levels will ensure patient care is delivered safely and effectively, with staff feeling supported to provide the best outcomes and maintain patient safety.

Where you'll be working

- M Maitland ED and the newly opened 8-bed Emergency Short Stay Unit (ESSU) to support flow and care for our patients. Successful candidates will be required to work within the Emergency Department including the ESSU.
- The hospital transitioned to a new facility in January 2022 with state‑of‑the‑art technology. Maitland Hospital provides high quality care in a modern environment and embraces technology and innovation.

Responsibilities

- Provide safe, patient‑centred nursing care in the ED/ESSU setting.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver timely and effective care.
- Participate in shift handovers, care planning, and escalation of clinical issues as needed.
- Support professional development and adherence to the Excellence framework in patient care.

Requirements and additional information

- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
- Eligibility list will be created for future permanent full or part time and temporary vacancies
- We are unable to accommodate visa sponsorship for applicants requiring a visa for this position
- To be eligible for permanent employment you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport. Temporary visa holders may be offered employment only if no suitable local candidate is identified, in line with visa conditions.
