Senior Structural Engineer

The opportunity
Step into a role where your technical strengths and leadership truly make an impact. As our Senior Structural Engineer, you'll lead a diverse team of eight engineers, and designers. Working together, you'll deliver high‑quality structural design solutions for bridges, culverts, buildings and other key community assets.
You'll contribute to a professional, collaborative team known for its supportive culture, shared learning, and commitment to excellence. Working closely with internal stakeholders, consultants and partner teams across Council, you'll play a vital part in shaping safe, sustainable and future‑proof infrastructure for our community.
You will deliver advanced technical work, coordinate and support a team of engineers and designers, contribute to consistent team standards, and further develop your strong leadership capability alongside experienced colleagues.
This is a permanent full-time position. Salary from: $121,561 up to $141,077 per annum ,plus superannuation and market forces allowance in lieu of motor vehicle ($207.30/week). A 3.5% Civil Liability allowance may also apply. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications)
What you will be doing
You'll play a key role in progressing structural upgrade programs, refining design processes, and mentoring early‑career engineers and other design staff-helping build capability across the team while delivering work the community relies on. You will also:
* Deliver structural designs, reports, drawings and specifications for a wide range of civil and structural projects.
* Review and guide the work of others, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance with standards and quality outcomes.
* Lead and support a team delivering multiple projects, helping coordinate workloads, priorities and deadlines.
* Work closely with designers, engineers, consultants and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless project planning and delivery.
* Contribute to project management tasks, including project reporting, estimates, design briefs, investigations and on‑site reviews.
* Apply Safety in Design principles and support the ongoing improvement of engineering systems, processes and standards.
About you
You bring a strong foundation in structural engineering, supported by a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and experience delivering high‑quality design work across civil or structural assets. You're confident operating independently on complex technical tasks, conducting site inspections as required, and making informed engineering decisions.
You have demonstrated leadership skills and have experience managing small teams and guiding junior engineers or assisting with coordination of project or design activities, and you value sharing knowledge and contributing to a positive team culture.
You hold a valid Class C driver licence and are comfortable travelling to sites across the LGA to support design investigations and project delivery. You're organised, proactive and collaborative, with the ability to manage shifting priorities while maintaining high standards.
