A senior finance leadership opportunity is available with our client, a large and complex institution operating in the education sector in Canberra. This appointment is being offered as a maternity leave cover and is expected to continue until June 2027. A competitive total remuneration package is available.
This role exists to provide end-to-end financial leadership and commercial support across a broad operating environment. The successful candidate will help shape decision-making by bringing together financial control, planning, modelling and commercial insight. They will work closely with senior stakeholders, translating complex financial information into practical advice that supports both day-to-day operations and longer-term objectives.
The position also carries people leadership responsibility. It will lead a finance team spanning management, analyst and processing capability, while working across a wide stakeholder group to improve performance, strengthen processes and ensure high quality financial support.
What the role will focus on
1. Leading financial planning, forecasting, reporting and analysis across the function
• Ensuring financial control processes are effective and aligned with broader organisational requirements
• Advising senior leaders on commercial decisions, strategic priorities and emerging risks
• Supporting business case development and objective review with sound commercial judgement
• Building trusted relationships across a diverse stakeholder environment, including external partners
• Strengthening finance service delivery through clear leadership and continuous improvement

The person in this role will provide reliable, well-judged financial and commercial advice in a complex setting. They will support senior stakeholders with clarity and credibility, keep financial operations running effectively and lead a capable team that delivers accurate, timely and practical support.
Required experience and skills
2. Relevant tertiary qualifications plus CA or CPA, or equivalent
• Extensive senior level experience across financial management, control, commercial management and modelling
• Strong capability in insight driven analysis and turning that analysis into practical recommendations
• Advanced communication skills, with the judgement to adapt messages for different audiences
• Proven stakeholder management experience, including influencing and negotiation at senior level
• Demonstrated leadership capability in complex organisations
• Strong technology skills, including advanced Excel and exposure to enterprise systems
