Primary objective
To develop and monitor achievement towards the Annual School Improvement Plan (ASIP) attendance and engagement goals and manage
case plans to re-engage students in school. Lead a team of attendance and engagement school-based staff. As an Authorised Person under
Northern Territory (NT) and Australian Government legislation, issue notices and direction in relation to school enrolment, attendance, and
participation.
Context statement
Katherine High School is the only government secondary school in Katherine. It provides an educational service to students from Year 7 to
Year 12. In the Senior Years students are provided with multiple achievement pathways to ensure they receive the education most
appropriate to their needs. The school caters to a diverse population from a range of different social, educational and diverse cultural
backgrounds. Katherine High School has an offsite program, Katherine Flexible Learning and Engagement Centre and provides an alternate
program for disengaged and at-risk teenagers in the Katherine area. The school takes great pride in its inclusive practices and works hard to

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Work proactively within the school to support, develop, and implement school attendance strategies based on patterns and trends
evidenced in attendance data and align with Australian and NT Government's priorities and strategies for attendance.
2. Lead the development of ASIP attendance and engagement goals and actions and monitor progression and achievement.
1. Develop clear case plans to re-engage children and young people in education that articulate goals, actions, and timeframes, in
partnership with families, relevant school staff, and other government and non-government agencies within statutory and non-statutory
frameworks.
1. As an Authorised Person under the Education Act 2015, issue notices and direction in relation to school enrolment, attendance, and
participation, including infringement notices.
1. Maintain accurate activity data and case management records in line with statutory and departmental requirements.
2. Participate in and contribute to school initiatives and activities aimed at attendance and engagement.

Essential
3. Extensive knowledge and experience in effective case management in relation to children and young people within statutory and non-
statutory frameworks.
1. Demonstrated experience with databases to accurately record information that may be used in legal proceedings, and knowledge and
experience in managing sensitive and confidential information.
1. Demonstrated capability to work within a cross-cultural school environment, interact effectively with children and young people from
diverse cultures and successfully develop effective partnerships with students, families, school staff and community and government
stakeholders.
1. Demonstrated conflict resolution skills in challenging situations.
2. Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor communication to suit the audience.
3. Demonstrated ability to manage own workload, time management techniques and initiative to increase productivity and achieve results.
4. Proficient in the use of computer software including Excel, Word and Microsoft Outlook.
Desirable
1. Willingness to conduct routine home visits.
2. Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Humanitarian Studies, Community Development and/or Youth Work.
