The opportunity
Reporting to the Managing Director, this role is responsible for a team of software, electronic and industrial design engineers who develop lighting control systems, which enables the manufacturing of current and future Advatek Lighting products. The position involves technical and process guidance, staff management and liaison with Product Management to ensure future product road map solutions are designed and released into Production according to requirements.
In this role you will:
* Contribute to development of strategic and annual plans and technology roadmap and communicate goals, tasks and other organisational needs to the Engineering team.
* Ensure product development is delivered on‑time and on budget by collaborating with others to estimate schedules and costs and manage engineering projects that cross multiple engineering disciplines, through their lifecycles.
* Lead research into new technologies to solve novel problems, existing technologies to understand how they may improve or apply to our products and the general state of the art.
* Maintain and enhance product quality by ensuring industry best practices are followed.
* Develop engineering processes and workflows that ensure quality of work but balance and optimise both cost and time to market. Set standards, metrics, and measurement techniques to assess the quality of work at each stage of the development cycle.
In addition, you will:
* Drive brand reputation and market leadership by continually advocating for quality product development.
* Ensure industry best practices are adhered to and compliance of engineering projects with various global standards and certifications.
* Build engineering capability through industry and network engagement and a program of activity that ensures continuing and developing professional practice within the team.
Qualifications
* A relevant tertiary qualification in electronics engineering or equivalent experience.
Skills
To be successful in this role you:
* Have strong electronics engineering knowledge and exposure to related disciplines such as embedded software development and industrial product design.
* Understand and apply commercial factors that drive and influence business performance.
* Manage multiple priorities across a small team.
* Can logically integrate various ideas and information to form effective goals, objectives, timelines, action plans, and solutions.
* Build and maintain constructive working relationships characterised by a high level of acceptance, cooperation and mutual regard.
* Can inspire, motivate, and guide others toward goal accomplishments and can effectively lead a team.
Experience
You have:
* At least 15 years demonstrable industry experience working in electronics.
* Experience working in, or with, software engineering teams highly desirable.
* Experience working in, or with, industrial engineering teams highly desirable.
* 5 years previous experience building and managing electronic and software engineering teams.
* Experience working with outsourced engineering service providers is advantageous.
* Experience with contemporary business software tools such as Atlassian is advantageous.
