Roles like this do not come up often. Sites like this exist even less.
Home to Australia's largest cement plant, our Gladstone site is an engineering environment unlike most. With a 1.7 million tonne per year clinker kiln, a lime kiln, cement mills, and significant material handling infrastructure spanning stacking, reclaiming, packaging, rail, road, and bulk ship-loading, the scale and complexity here is genuinely impressive. This role also supports activities at our East End limestone mine.
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join the Operations team and play a central role in keeping this plant running at its best. Reporting to the Mechanical Services Manager, you will have broad scope across the entire site, from day-to-day plant performance through to breakdown management, capital project support, and long-term asset planning.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will:
* Monitor and analyse daily plant performance through lead and lag indicators, assess plant health and provide clear reporting
* Manage breakdowns end to end - from recovery plan development through to commissioning and detailed close-out reporting
* Develop quality technical scopes of work and provide clear direction to the maintenance team during planned and unplanned work
* Review work orders and direct planners on priorities and execution
* Apply condition monitoring principles to identify failing or at-risk equipment before it becomes a problem
* Manage and update mechanical asset life plans and task lists
* Identify and report mechanical risks to support reliability and availability targets
* Support capital projects with practical engineering input
* Develop and review maintenance methods and Inspection and Test Plans
* Actively contribute to a strong safety culture through toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety observations
What You'll Bring
We are open to the level of experience you bring - what matters most is a solid mechanical background and the drive to take ownership of a site this scale. Ideally you will have:
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering
* 5+ years' experience in asset and maintenance management within heavy industry or cement manufacturing
* Proven ability to respond to and manage complex breakdowns
* Strong communication and people skills - you will be working across the whole site
* Proficiency in SAP and MS Office
* A practical, solutions-focused approach to plant troubleshooting
