About the role

AEMO's Market Management group is seeking an Analyst to join the Prudentials team on a full-time 12-month contract. Our team's primary functions are to ensure market participants adhere to the National Electricity Rules and National Gas Rules (Rules), monitor prudential positions of all market participants in the east coast gas markets and National Electricity Market, and ensure the timely settlement of each of the markets in line with the relevant Rules.

Under minimal supervision you will use your sophisticated analytical skills and operational knowledge to execute complex operational processes in compliance with relevant regulations, rules and procedures and contribute to ongoing market enhancement and process improvement projects and activities. You will provide high quality stakeholder support and establish excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

What you will be doing

* Monitoring electricity and gas market participants' financial exposure and collateral requirements,
* Facilitating market clearing and escalating issues in line with market rules and procedures while maintaining strong attention to detail.
* Identifying opportunities to improve existing SQL-based reports and processes by collaborating with internal teams, reviewing data structures and implementing enhancements.
* Applying analytical thinking to drive insights, maintain and improve existing tools, and ongoing reporting needs.

What you will bring to the role

Communication and connection will be key, as you will be collaborating with a range of internal stakeholders and be a key contact point for industry participants regarding prudentials and rule-based queries. You will bring:

* A relevant degree qualification supported by related work experience in the Energy sector. Consideration will also be given to relevant (Commercial/Regulatory/Legal) experience.
* Proficiency in writing and optimising SQL queries, including joins, subqueries, and aggregations queries to support operational and reporting needs
* Advanced Excel capability combined with practical VBA experience to build and maintain macros
* Strong data visualisation skills, with experience using Power BI or similar tools highly desirable
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with an ability to draw and articulate conclusions from a range of data and rule inputs
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Understanding of energy market structure, NEM, WEM, or gas markets with knowledge of settlement or prudentials processes will be an advantage
