In this role you will provide advanced clinical assessment and intervention in Hand Therapy and injury management within the Emergency Department and outpatient settings. This role delivers evidence‐based hand therapy and functional rehabilitation, supporting timely patient flow, safe discharge planning, and optimal recovery outcomes. As a senior therapist, this position offers leadership, supervision, and mentoring to junior staff, while contributing to service development, quality improvement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The role operates within a fast‐paced environment, ensuring high standards of care, clinical governance, and alignment with organisational values and best practice.
The Position
* Provision of an innovative approach to Occupational Therapy services within the Emergency department as part of the AHSET team (Allied health Shared emergency team) as well as providing a speciality expertise to acute hand injuries running a daily fast track hand clinic.
* Completion of additional formal hand therapy education desirable.
* Provision of a comprehensive intervention and appropriate discharge planning to manage emergency dept complex patients to assist with discharge from ED.
* Responsible for completing appropriate administrative duties. This requires liaison with the administration team, reporting of statistical data and completion of electronic progress notes.
* Provide written and verbal reports as required.
* Referrals to external agencies are initiated in a timely manner.
* Demonstrates consolidated, current knowledge of research, evidence‐based practice in Occupational Therapy and related clinical areas – apply to the ED and hand therapy settings.
* Required to exercise independent professional judgment on routine matters. They may require direct professional supervision from more senior caregivers when performing novel, complex or critical tasks.
* Leads and contributes to undergraduate student programs and training.
* Leads and develops junior staff within the team.
* Acts as a role model for staff in promoting professional values and ethics.
* Represents the profession either clinically or in relation to service development as required. Initiates and participates in working parties, committees and internal forums at a discipline and divisional level as required.
Position Requirements
You will hold a tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy with current registration with AHPRA, alongside demonstrated senior clinical experience (a minimum of 4 years clinical experience within an acute setting) and leadership within a specialised healthcare setting. Proven ability to supervise and mentor junior staff, foster professional development, and contribute to innovative, evidence‐based practice and quality improvement initiatives is essential. Proven experience showcasing strong organisational and clinical reasoning skills is essential. You will hold a valid driver's licence while knowledge of public and private funding models and eligibility for a Medicare Provider Number is desirable. * Salary: $126,487 to $134,871 per annum pro‐rata basis, plus 12% superannuation.
* Fixed Term part time position (covering maternity leave), working 19 hours per fortnight.
