The office of Ted O'Brien MP is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing Administrative Support Officer, based in the Member's Electorate Office in Maroochydore, QLD.

Position Overview

The Administration Support Officer provides general administrative support to the electorate office. This role is the first point of contact for the public at the electorate office, both in person and over the phone. This role also supports the Operations Manager in carrying out their primary operations, budget and diary responsibilities. Working closely with office staff, the Administration Support Officer is responsive to the needs of the electorate office and keeps the team informed of administrative requirements, while maintaining a calm and organised approach in a fast-paced environment. This is a detail-oriented role that demands excellent time management, discretion, good judgement and a genuine commitment to public service. The successful candidate will be proactive, adaptable, and capable of balancing competing demands with professionalism and care. They will contribute to a respectful, inclusive workplace culture and support the broader operations of the electorate office as required. Ultimately, the Administration Support Officer is vital to the basic functioning of the electorate office, flexibly plugging gaps wherever they appear.

The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:

* Support the Operations Manager in all administrative tasks in the electorate office.
* Assist with correspondence, including e-mails and mail relating to invitations and diary-related matters.
* Assist the Operations Manager with Member's and Chief of Staff's travel arrangements, as needed.
* Primary point of contact with the public at the electorate office and over the phone.
* Process Member's TA and expense reimbursements.
* Oversee office maintenance.
* Assist with electorate events and activities, which may include work outside normal office hours.
* Action constituent and/or stakeholder queries, as required.
* Support and maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
* Other duties as required to support the Member and the effective operation of the Electorate Office.
* Availability to travel to Canberra during sitting weeks, as required.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

* Experience in a similar administrative role would be highly regarded, as would experience in government or political settings.
* Strong organisational and time management skills with attention to detail.
* The ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and meet competing deadlines.
* A keen interest in and understanding of Australia's system of government and parliamentary processes.
* Excellent written and oral communications skills.
* Intermediate to advanced IT competence with programs such as the Microsoft 365 suite.
* A respectful demeanour when engaging with office staff and constituents.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement which include:

* A commencing salary between $74,537 and $78,911 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
* An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.
* Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
* An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

* An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
* The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
* Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
* The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
