A role that grows with you

This is not a one-size-fits-all planning role.
We are offering a broadbanded Town Planner position (Grade 11–13), designed to support Town Planners at different stages of their career — from emerging planners through to experienced statutory professionals.
You’ll be appointed at a level that reflects your current capability, with a clear, structured progression pathway as you build your skills, qualifications and experience.
Why this role stands out At Glen Innes Severn Council, planning is not about volume — it’s about quality, judgement and real outcomes.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
* Work across diverse rural and urban development applications
* Apply professional judgement, not just process
* Be part of a small, capable team where your work matters
* Gain exposure to both statutory and practical planning outcomes
* Progress your career within a supported, structured framework

The role You will:
* Assess development applications in accordance with NSW planning legislation
* Prepare clear, defensible reports and recommendations
* Provide practical planning advice to applicants and the community
* Manage applications through the NSW Planning Portal / Council’s internal systems
* Undertake site inspections across the region
* Work collaboratively across Council and with external agencies

This is a hands-on statutory planning role with real variety and increasing autonomy as you progress.
Who we’re looking for As outlined in the provided position description, we welcome applications from planners at different stages.
However, across all levels, you will be:
* A clear communicator (written and verbal)
* Organised and able to manage competing priorities
* Practical, solutions-focused and customer-oriented

What we offer
* Flexible grading (11–13) aligned to your experience
* Clear progression framework
* Support for study and professional development to support you on your planning journey
* A collaborative and supportive team environment
* A role where you can see the impact of your work

About us Glen Innes Severn Council services a diverse regional area of over 5,400km² in the New England region of NSW, delivering planning outcomes that directly shape our communities and future growth.
Why join us If you’re looking for:
* A role that meets you where you are
