Job Description
Summary: A Civil Engineer, categorized under the occupational code 233211, is responsible for designing, planning, and overseeing the construction and maintenance of infrastructure projects. This includes roads, bridges, dams, airports, sewage systems, and other public works. They ensure that all projects comply with relevant regulations and are completed efficiently, safely, and within budget.
Responsibilities
* Planning and designing infrastructure projects
* Overseeing construction and maintenance of structures
* Ensuring compliance with safety and legal regulations
* Managing project budgets and resources
* Coordinating with architects, subcontractors, and clients
* Conducting site inspections and assessments
* Preparing detailed project reports and documentation
Main tasks
* Conduct field investigations to obtain data for design
* Develop detailed design plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software
* Supervise construction activities to ensure adherence to plans and specifications
* Analyse survey reports, maps, and other data to plan projects
* Consulting with stakeholders to understand their requirements
* Monitoring project progress and serving as a liaison between stakeholders
* Ensuring that the project adheres to all environmental guidelines
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications: Typically, a Civil Engineer will hold a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Many positions also require professional certification or licensure, such as Chartered Engineer (CEng) status in the United Kingdom. Advanced degrees or specialised certifications can further enhance a candidate's qualifications, particularly for senior roles or specialised fields within civil engineering.
