**Who we are**
The Biodiversity Division is part of the Australian Government Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. The division's goal is to identify, protect, and conserve Australia's biodiversity. Responsibilities of the Division include:
- Assessment, listing and conservation planning for threatened species, threatened ecological communities and key threatening processes under the EPBC Act.
- Supporting the independent Threatened Species Scientific Committee
- Supporting the Threatened Species Commissioner to raise awareness and implement the Threatened Species Action Plan 2022-2032.
- Delivering programs which recover biodiversity affected by the 2019/2020 bushfires, improve the health of Australia's urban waterways, save native species, and improve Koala health outcomes.
- Assessment and listing of terrestrial and freshwater threatened species and ecological communities under the EPBC Act.
- Preparation of conservation planning documents for terrestrial and freshwater threatened species and ecological communities under the EPBC Act.
- Providing support for the Threatened Species Scientific Committee.
- Leading threatened species and ecological community listing and conservation planning reforms under the Nature Positive Plan.
The Conservation Planning Reform Section is responsible for guiding the reform of conservation planning under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 2009 (EPBC Act). It is also responsible for undertaking business improvement for conservation planning across the Branch. Specific to this role is providing advice and guidance that ensures business processes briefing templates, guidance materials, templates and external engagements comply with the EPBC Act requirements. This includes through all engagements with both the Threatened Species Scientific Committee, public, experts and the Minister in conservation planning.
**The Job**
As an EL1 Assistant Director Conservation Planning Reform, your duties will include:
- Leading policy inputs to national conservation planning reforms for Australia's threatened species and ecological communities
- Leading reform engagement with relevant teams across the Department
- Leading coordination, review and synthesis of ideas and information to inform best practice policy
- Representing the Section at key meetings including the Threatened Species Scientific Committee, where required
- Managing staff where required.

**Knowledge and experience**
- Extensive stakeholder engagement and management skills.
- A demonstrated knowledge, or the ability to quickly gain an understanding of relevant EPBC Act requirements relating to conservation planning.
- Demonstrated experience in being flexible, reliable and able to communicate well in a small team to enable a collegiate working environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex business processes and the ability to deal with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
- Highly developed analytical, written and presentation skills and the ability to manage multiple high-pressure deadlines, including the use of data analytics and visualisation.

**Desirable qualifications**
Formal qualifications in a related field (legal, project and program management, regulation, governance).
**Eligibility and other requirements**
**Citizenship** -** To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Setting and Water you must be an Australian citizen.
**Security Clearance** -** This position requires a **Baseline Vetting** security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
**Pre-employment Check** - Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.
