We’re looking for an experienced and hands-on Workshop Leading Hand (Diesel Fitter) to join our high-performing team in Mackay, 4740. This is a great opportunity to lead, mentor, and work alongside skilled mechanics and apprentices in a supportive, professional environment.
Role on Offer:
$65/hr + penalties
Hours: Monday to Friday, occasional Saturdays
Start times: Between 7:00am and 9:00am (split crews)
Casual ongoing position (Temp-to-Perm opportunity)
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor a team of mechanics and apprentices with varying levels of experience, leveraging their strengths and developing areas for improvement.
Take a hands-on role in daily service work, including diagnostics, servicing, and minor/major repairs.
Direct and manage workshop operations to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.
Support the leadership team by ensuring accurate technician reports, timekeeping, and job documentation.
Maintain high-quality workmanship standards and contribute to an exceptional customer experience.
The successful candidate will require:
Trade qualification in Diesel Mechanic, HV Mechanic, or similar (mandatory)
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a heavy vehicle or engine-related business
Current driver’s licence
Strong knowledge and experience with Western Star, MAN, MTU, Dennis Eagle, Detroit Diesel, and Allison products
Proven positive leadership skills with a high-performing team
Previous experience as a Leading Hand or Senior Mechanic – Advantageous
HR Licence (or ability to obtain) – Advantageous
