Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Construction Tooling: SSN AUKUS Build Program

ASC is building the next generation of SSN-AUKUS submarines in a joint venture with BAE Systems. This senior role focuses on the design, development, and commissioning of construction tooling, jigs, and fixtures, ensuring high quality, safety, and performance.
About the Opportunity
As a key member of the joint venture, you will lead tooling initiatives across multiple trades and facilities, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers.
Responsibilities
* Lead tooling development, design, develop, and commission construction tooling, jigs, and fixtures to support SSN-AUKUS submarine production.
* Ensure operational readiness by defining tooling requirements, coordinating timely design, manufacture, and compliance across trades.
* Drive continuous improvement of tooling solutions to meet evolving safety, quality, and performance standards.
* Collaborate across stakeholders – internal production, planning, ICT, safety, procurement, and external suppliers, partners, and regulatory bodies.
* Manage complexity and scale, aligning tooling strategies with program milestones, security requirements, and production readiness.
* Provide technical leadership by mentoring junior engineers, contributing to tooling standards, and fostering knowledge sharing.
About You
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).
* Minimum 7 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in heavy industry or defence.
* Proven experience in design, commissioning and lifecycle management of construction tooling, jigs and fixtures.
* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, lean principles, quality systems and safety standards.
* Proficiency in CAD software and engineering analysis tools.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and project management skills.
* Experience working in complex, regulated environments.
* Ability to foster a positive, collaborative project environment and adapt to evolving business needs.
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level. Eligibility is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
