Support Technician - (Shift, Entry Level)
4Tel is a leading communications and systems integration company with experience across various transport sectors domestic and internationally. We are expanding our Shift Technician team in Newcastle, NSW.
We have a clear commitment to support those who wish to break into the IT industry and may not yet have sufficient education or industry experience. This position is an ideal opportunity for such candidates.

We are looking for an IT Support Technician who has an interest in learning about:
* Installation and maintenance of communications and control systems
* Administration of Unix and Windows platforms
* Systems‑based approach to fault finding and diagnosis
* Technical documentation and engineering report preparation
* Complying with current cyber‑security practices
We welcome applicants from various backgrounds, including:
* Experience in electrical, IT, communications, cabling or engineering
* TAFE or other certificate level qualification
* The attitude to learn, follow process and have an inquisitive nature; an interest in tinkering with technology is ideal
About the role
This role is part of an on‑site Support Technician team that provides 24x7 support to a real‑time train control environment in Newcastle, NSW. It is a critical role that may require working onsite during any government‑mandated lockdowns.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Pre‑shift handover with fellow technicians
* Scanning and checking systems for alerts
* Working in and among the client facility
* Liaising with client staff for system errors
* Escalating issues that need attention
* Following defined processes
* Undertaking ad‑hoc investigations as requested
* Answering phone calls and making calls to technicians
* Participating in team meetings and social activities
Technical services include:
* Installation and maintenance of communications and control systems
* Administration of Unix and Windows platforms
* Systems‑based approach to fault finding and diagnosis
* Technical documentation and supporting engineering report preparation
* Compliance with current cyber‑security practices
The successful candidate will be required to pass a Rail Safety Medical, a drug and alcohol test, and will have full RGB sight spectrum. Ongoing drug and alcohol testing will be conducted by the client's facility.

On‑the‑job training will be provided to equip the successful candidate to manage the technical challenges of this unique environment. Entry‑level positions will not involve tasks beyond the individual's competency.

Applicants must be permanent residents of Australia, preferably from the greater Newcastle area, or be willing to relocate at their own expense. A driver's licence and own transport are required, and overseas sponsorship is not available.
