Chef / Cook
The award winning Noodledoof Brewery and Distillery is seeking an Chef or Cook who is passionate about food and local produce. This Chef will support the existing Head Chef in all aspects of preparation and cooking of meals, as well as supporting the smooth running of the kitchen during meals service. Chef responsibilities and duties
Maintain Kitchen
- Ensure the kitchen, including all appliances and utensils, is clean.
- Clean and sanitize work areas and equipment according to establishment protocol, deep-cleaning equipment and work areas as needed.
- Keep the station fully stocked and in working order during food service.
- Maintain food production records, notify supervisors when supplies are low, unpack deliveries, and restock work areas.
Prepare Ingredients
- Prepare ingredients prior to meal service, such as chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or cleaning seafood.
- Assist the head chef in cooking dishes according to set recipes.
Store and Dispose of Food
- Take responsibility for the storage of food, both incoming stock and leftovers.
- Unload delivery trucks and ensure that food is stored in the appropriate conditions.
- After food service, determine if leftovers of either prepared or partially prepared food can be reused or if they must be disposed of.
Skills Required
- Have a passion for food and strong attention to detail.
- Works well with different personality types, enjoys helping others, and upholds a strong sense of cleanliness and organization.
- Excellent communication skills when interacting with the Head Chef, establishment wait staff, food vendors, and delivery people.
- Attention to detail working in high-volume, fast-paced environments. Perform well under pressure and multitask while paying close attention to details.
- Flexibility – cook/chef may perform different tasks depending on the day. If the restaurant is very busy, for example, they may take charge with cooking to help the executive chef accommodate all orders or work long hours.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
Education and Training
- While no formal education is required, training at a TAFE college or culinary school is preferred.
- Previous work experience as a cook/chef assistant is desired.
- Minimum 1-2 years' experience working in a commercial kitchen environment
- Certificate (FSH) Food Safety Handler preferred
- Must have the right to work in Australia
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery preferred
