About the Role
A Database Administrator is responsible for designing, implementing, administering, and monitoring data management systems to ensure consistency, quality, security, and compliance with rules and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
* Sustain capabilities that predominantly use Oracle technologies; and/or Sybase technologies.
* Evaluate and test new system releases (including patches). Plan and coordinate the installation of new versions of system software.
* Investigate, coordinate and resolve potential and actual service problems.
* Manage system and database configurations across numerous environments (e.g. production, QA, development, training, test, and exercise). Monitor database activity and resource usage. Optimise database performance and plan for forecast resource needs.
* Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of relational databases and replication technologies: Oracle Database; and/or Sybase ASE / Sybase Replication Server
* Develop simple programs, or scripts to assist in the implementation, integration, and maintenance of the system software.
Requirements
* SYSP 5 Ensures that system software is provisioned and configured to facilitate the achievement of service objectives. Evaluates new system software and recommends adoption if appropriate. Plans the provisioning and testing of new versions of system software. Investigates and coordinates the resolution of potential and actual service problems. Ensures that operational procedures and diagnostics for system software are current, accessible and well understood
* DBAD 5 Identifies, evaluates and manages the adoption of database administration tools and processes, including automation. Develops and maintains procedures and documentation for databases. Contributes to the setting of standards for definition, security and integrity of database objects and ensures conformance to these standards. Manages database configuration including installing and upgrading software and maintaining relevant documentation. Monitors database activity and resource usage. Optimises database performance and plans for forecast resource needs.
* DBDS 4 Implements physical database designs to support transactional data requirements for performance and availability. Develops and maintains specialist knowledge of database and data warehouse concepts, design principles, architectures, software and facilities. Assesses proposed changes to object/data structures and evaluates alternative options. Implements data warehouse designs that support demands for business intelligence and data analytics
* PROG 2 Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors simple programs/scripts. Applies agreed standards and tools to achieve a well-engineered result. Reviews own work
Desirable Skills
* Demonstrated experience with Oracle products including Oracle database and Oracle APEX
* Demonstrated experience with Sybase products including ASE and Replication Server
