Heavy Diesel Mechanic
Northfleet is seeking experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanics to join teams in Newman, Karratha, and Port Hedland.
Base Pay Range
A$40.00/hr - A$45.00/hr (based on skills and experience).
About the Job
Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you will diagnose, repair, maintain, and test motor vehicle and other internal combustion engines, including light vehicles, trailers, buses, cranes, and large trucks. You will also be required to maintain a safe working workplace.
Tasks Include
- Detect and diagnose faults in vehicle parts and engines.
- Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, steering mechanisms, transmissions, and other components, checking integrity.
- Repair and replace worn and defective parts, reassemble mechanical components, and interpret service manuals.
- Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and engine servicing to ensure smooth operation and compliance with emission regulations.
- Reassemble engines and parts after repairs.
- Test and modify mechanical parts after repairs for proper performance.
- Diagnose and test parts using diagnostics assistance.
- Inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates or detail work required to meet safety standards.
To Be Successful the Following Is Required
- Sound understanding of safe working and housekeeping practices.
- Trade qualification or equivalent.
- Strong English language proficiency.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Excellent communication skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a team.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Commitment to health and safety.
- Current driver’s licence HC/MC preferred.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol test.
- National police clearance valid within 6 months.
Employment Details
- Hourly rate $40.00–$45.00, dependent on experience, based on a minimum 38‑hour week.
- Subsidised housing and utilities offered to successful applicants.
- Full‑time employment.
- Positions are open to permanent Australian residents only, residentially based in the Pilbara region of Western Australia; FIFO will not be considered.
