We are seeking a dedicated Scrap Metal Operator to join our dynamic team. Responsibilities Collection & Sorting: Efficiently collect and sort scrap metal materials according to type and grade, ensuring accurate categorization for further processing. Equipment Operation: Operate forklifts, cranes, and other material-handling equipment safely and efficiently to load, unload, and transport materials. Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe work environment for all team members. Quality Control: Conduct routine inspections of scrap materials to identify and remove non-conforming items and contaminants from the recycling stream. Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of materials processed, including weights and types, to support operational efficiency and business reporting. Team Collaboration: Work closely with fellow operators and supervisors to coordinate workflow and ensure timely completion of tasks. Qualifications Experience: Previous experience in a recycling, waste management, or industrial environment is preferred but not required. Training will be provided for suitable candidates. Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a forklift is advantageous. Skills: Strong attention to detail, basic math skills for recording measurements, and a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship. Physical Ability: Capable of lifting heavy objects and working in varying weather conditions. Able to stand, walk, and perform manual labour for extended periods. Team Player: Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a diverse and multicultural team environment. Day-to-Day Begin each day with a safety briefing and team meeting to outline daily goals and tasks. Use equipment to move large volumes of scrap metal from storage areas to processing stations. Work independently or in small teams to ensure that sorting, processing, and shipping schedules are adhered to. Regularly communicate with supervisors and team members to update workflow progress and address any safety or operational concerns. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area to facilitate a professional and efficient workplace.
