Painting Trainer & Assessor – Job Description
Overview
The Painting Trainer & Assessor is responsible for delivering high-quality training and competency assessments to students pursuing qualifications in painting and decorating.
This role ensures learners acquire the practical skills, safety knowledge, and industry standards required to work as professional painters in residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery
Plan, prepare, and deliver training sessions (theory and practical) in painting and decorating.
Demonstrate correct use of painting tools, equipment, and materials.
Teach surface preparation, application techniques, colour matching, protective coatings, and finishes.
Deliver training in accordance with industry standards and organisational training plans.
Support learners with guidance, tutorials, and skills practice.
Assessment
Conduct formative and summative assessments (practical and written).
Assess learners' competencies against relevant training package requirements.
Maintain accurate assessment records and evidence.
Provide constructive feedback and support to improve learner performance.
Ensure assessments are fair, valid, reliable, and compliant with regulations.
Workplace Health & Safety
Enforce safety standards in workshop and job-site training areas.
Train learners on correct handling of chemicals, ladders, scaffolding, and equipment.
Conduct risk assessments and maintain safe training environments.
Industry Engagement
Keep training content aligned with current industry practices and technologies.
Maintain relationships with painting companies, apprenticeship programs, and employers.
Participate in professional development to stay updated on trade advancements.
Administration
Maintain training schedules, attendance records, and learner progress documentation.
Prepare reports as required by the training organisation or regulatory bodies.
Contribute to continuous improvement of training resources and delivery.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE***** or equivalent).
Minimum 3–5 years industry experience.
Strong practical skills in residential and/or commercial painting.
Experience in training, mentoring, or supervisory roles (preferred).
Up-to-date knowledge of WHS/OHS regulations.
