What We Do
The Environment, Heritage and Parks (EHP) Group delivers the following functions for the ACT government:
- Nature conservation policy, planning and program delivery
- Heritage conservation policy and regulation
- Environment protection policy
- Conservation research and evaluation
- Management of Parks and Reserves
- Fire and Forest Management
- Agriculture and Biosecurity policy and delivery programs
The EHP Group also supports the ACT Heritage Council, ACT Scientific Committee, and the Dhawura-Ngunnawal Caring for Country Committee.
The Team
In supporting the Executive Group Manager – Environment, Heritage & Parks (EGM), the Group Business Planning & Coordination Branch (GBPC) coordinates, administers and delivers effective corporate and business management functions across the Environment, Heritage and Parks (EHP) Group. This Branch has strong collaborative links with Senior Directors, Managers and administration staff across the EHP Group. The GBPC Branch also works collaboratively with staff in the various functional areas in the Directorate’s corporate group.
The Role
The Government Business Officer will report to the Senior Director - Group Business Planning & Coordination Branch. They will also work closely with the EGM and other Senior Directors, to provide a range of administrative support functions in the preparation of ministerial correspondence, ministerial briefs, constituent inquiries and Questions on Notice.
Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate that you have high level communication skills, including the ability to effectively manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, high quality writing skills to prepare constituent responses, Ministerials, briefs and a capacity to advise, negotiate and consult to gain information from various staff. You will have outstanding organisational skills, including the ability to effectively prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
Eligibility/Other requirements:
- Knowledge of government business processes, in particular ministerial procedures would be an advantage.
- Previous experience or the ability to quickly acquire experience in the use of records management systems (Objective, TRIM) would be highly regarded.

This position is primarily based at 480 Northbourne Ave, Dickson which is a workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT. Working arrangement will be negotiated between the successful applicant and the approving Manager.

City and Environment
City and Environment Directorate was established on the 1 July 2025. This new directorate is an amalgamation of positions previously advertised under Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate and Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate.
