A respected, values driven legal education and advocacy organisation is seeking a Director of Operations to provide strategic leadership, operational excellence and legal insight across its programs and initiatives. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of law, education and community impact, influencing the profession while contributing to meaningful access to justice outcomes.

This senior leadership role combines high level strategy and governance with hands on operational delivery, making it ideal for an experienced legal professional who is motivated by purpose and impact.


About The Role

Reporting to the governing committee and working closely with a small, highly committed team, the Director of Operations is responsible for the effective delivery, compliance and sustainability of the organisation s education programs and events.

You will oversee a diverse portfolio of professional offerings including Practical Legal Training (PLT), Continuing Professional Development (CPD), Practice Management Course (PMC), short courses and conferences, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements, uphold ethical standards and respond to the evolving needs of the legal profession.

Your legal expertise will inform program design, governance, policy development and stakeholder engagement, while your leadership will help shape the organisation s strategic direction and long-term impact.


Key Responsibilities


Operational Leadership

* Lead the end-to-end delivery of PLT, CPD, PMC short courses and conferences
* Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and accreditation frameworks
* Develop and maintain policies, systems and processes aligned with best practice
* Oversee budgeting, financial management, reporting and organisational services


Strategy & Governance

* Implement strategic plans that advance access to justice and professional collegiality
* Provide accurate reporting on operations, financial performance, risks and outcomes
* Support strong governance and risk management under applicable legal frameworks
* Monitor, evaluate and report on the impact of access to justice initiatives


Stakeholder Engagement

* Build and maintain relationships across the legal profession, judiciary, universities and sector partners
* Represent the organisation in legal forums, consultations and sector discussions
* Oversee external communications and sponsorship development


People & Culture

* Lead, mentor and support staff, volunteers and contractors
* Foster a collaborative, inclusive and values?aligned workplace culture
* Oversee recruitment, induction and performance management processes


Fundraising & Sustainability

* Develop compelling sponsorship proposals and secure funding for programs and events
* Maintain strong relationships with sponsors, donors and partners
* Balance affordability and accessibility with financial sustainability


About You

You are a values?driven leader with a strong connection to the legal sector and a passion for education, ethics and access to justice. You bring both strategic capability and operational pragmatism, and you are comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders across the profession.


You Will Bring

* Significant experience in, or deep understanding of, the legal sector
* Proven leadership in operations, governance and stakeholder management
* Sound knowledge of legal compliance frameworks and regulatory requirements
* Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting and reporting
* Exceptional communication skills and high emotional intelligence
* A genuine commitment to advancing legal education and access to justice

This role may particularly suit General Managers, Legal Operations Managers or senior legal professionals seeking a part?time leadership position with meaningful impact.
