About the role
The Senior Advisor, Corporate Communications – Speechwriting is a trusted advisor and storyteller for the City of Melbourne's most senior leaders. In this role, you'll craft speeches that bring the city's priorities to life, shape public conversations and ensure our leaders' voices are clear, consistent and compelling. You'll work closely with the Lord Mayor, Deputy Lord Mayor, CEO and Councillors, as well as a collaborative communications team, to deliver high-quality content that reflects the heart, ambition and direction of our city.
Key responsibilities
* Research, draft and deliver high-quality speeches and written content that is engaging, accurate and aligned to organisational priorities.
* Build trusted relationships with senior leaders, support teams and external stakeholders to gather insights and anticipate communication needs.
* Work closely with the broader Communications team to ensure aligned, integrated and amplified messaging across all channels.
* Located on the traditional lands of the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, Melbourne is globally recognised as one of the most liveable, diverse, and dynamic cities.

You are a natural storyteller and community connector who thrives on crafting meaningful narratives. You're confident working with influential leaders, understanding their intent, and translating complex ideas into clear, engaging messages. You bring curiosity, political awareness and exceptional judgement to everything you do.
You will also be:
* Skilled at adapting your writing style to different voices and audiences.
* Someone who enjoys building strong relationships, navigating ambiguity and delivering high-quality work under pressure.
What your experience might look like
* Proven experience in speechwriting, communications, journalism or similar content-driven roles.
* Outstanding written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex or sensitive content into clear, compelling language.
* Ability to work collaboratively with senior stakeholders and build strong relationships across diverse teams.
* Strong political or organisational judgement, with the ability to work in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
* Highly organised, resilient and comfortable managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
