The Neurosurgery Unit at Monash Health comprises both adult and paediatric neurosurgery. There is a substantial private arm of the unit, based at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital on the Clayton site. On‐call consultation and support is provided at Dandenong and Casey Hospitals. Surgery is conducted at Clayton. The unit incorporates a number of busy outpatient clinics at the Clayton site and has a substantial emergency workload.

The position is located on the wards and operating theatres relevant to the Unit and may require the incumbent to travel to other Monash Health sites. The role is best suited for a doctor who is planning a career in neurosurgery and wishes to gain experience at this level. Prior neurosurgery experience at HMO level or higher is required.

• Patient assessment and management in consultation with the treating consultant and fellows
• Intern/HMO support, supervision, feedback, and teaching
• Student interaction and teaching
• Family member communication, feedback, and liaison
• Extensive interaction with other health professionals, especially nursing and allied health staff
• Self‐management (including time management, accessing education, training and completing college requirements)
• Provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary treating team
• Demonstrate commitment to key organisational initiatives
• Demonstrate compliance with all relevant Monash Health Policies and Procedures

Previous experience in neurosurgery at HMO level or higher is required.

• Primary medical degree (MBBS) or equivalent
• Australian working rights
• Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• Employee Working with Children's Check
• Current Driver's Licence
• Completion of referee request form at least twice (preferably three times)
• Two completed referee reports
