About the position
The Engineering Manager oversees the daily operations, technical quality, and professional development of the ARM Hub's multidisciplinary engineering and design team. This role ensures that engineering work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of professional practice.
You will get the chance to work across a broad range of industries and technical problems, managing a varied team of engineers. There are multiple projects in stages of delivery at any one time, from high-tech commercial projects, to smaller simple implementations under industry accelerator programs.
The position reports to the General Manager for supervision, workload coordination and Performance Planning and Review (PPR).
A mandatory requirement of this position is RPEQ registration in Mechatronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent chartered status.
Key responsibilities include:
Team Management
* Provide technical leadership and daily operational oversight of the engineering and design team.
* Lead strategic planning for team capability, resource allocation, and engineering processes.
* Mentor junior staff and support their continued professional development, including exposure to research, robotics, manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies.
* Represent ARM Hub on industry groups, and present on ARM Hub's behalf at events.
Technical Delivery
* Manage engineering components of ARM Hub projects in line with scope, timeframes and budget expectations.
* Develop project plans, effort estimates and quotes for ARM Hub project delivery.
* Review and approve engineering documentation, including designs, calculations, risk assessments and prototypes.
* Undertake feasibility assessments, third-party design reviews and quality assurance in line with project requirements.
* Maintain and refine engineering procedures, safety systems and governance frameworks.
* Support facility operations and ensure engineering work complies with workplace health and safety policies.
* Work collaboratively with vendors, consultants, research partners and clients to ensure successful execution of engineering tasks.
To ensure job flexibility the successful appointee may be required to perform any other duties as nominated by the ARM Hub, consistent with the employee's skillset.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. RPEQ or equivalent in Mechatronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
2. Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
3. Strong ability to coordinate complex projects within agreed scope, budget and time.
4. Demonstrated experience in technical oversight and engineering governance.
5. Proven experience mentoring and developing engineering staff.
6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
7. Well-developed written and analytical skills.
8. Ability to work cooperatively in a fast-paced environment with multiple demanding deadlines.
Highly desirable
1. Supervise research undertaken at the ARM Hub, including writing and editing reports, notes, and other documentation.
2. Access and reference applicable scientific literature.
Remuneration and benefits
The classification for this position has an annual remuneration range between $140K - $160K per annum. You will additionally receive 12% superannuation.
