Terminal Operations Manager Job Description
The Terminal Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a terminal facility, overseeing stock management and manufacturing, controlling operating costs, and identifying operational improvements. This role provides leadership to staff to ensure operations are conducted safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage daily and weekly production requirements to meet customer orders and forecasts
* Supervise storage and handling of imported bitumen
* Monitor stock measurement and supply situation, advising stakeholders of supply or quality issues
* Minimise demurrage by ensuring safe and efficient discharge of products from ships
* Troubleshoot equipment problems and implement effective solutions
* Support reliable operation of site systems, including automated gantry loading systems
* Maintain strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders
Health & Safety:
* Ensure compliance with statutory health, safety, and environment requirements
* Manage hazards and incidents, reporting them to supervisors
* Use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with procedures and training
Quality Management System:
* Comply with Quality Management system requirements in all aspects of the role
* Implement continuous improvement principles in all aspects of the role
* Promote awareness of customer requirements throughout the business
Leadership/Team Development:
* Lead and develop staff to grow capability and competence
* Promote an operational culture to drive efficient operations and maintenance
* Assign tasks and review according to SAPS requirements
Operational Excellence:
* Drive cost-effective operations and maintenance through effective resource allocation and utilisation
* Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and productivity
