As an applied scientist at Microsoft, you’ll work with cutting‑edge generative AI models, LLMs, AI tooling, and research. You will collaborate with research teams, build and fine‑tune models, and design world‑class solutions that simplify and elevate video creation—from automating editing tasks to enabling entirely recent forms of storytelling.

You’ll join a nimble, cross‑disciplinary team embedded within Microsoft, working alongside engineers, product managers, designers and researchers to deliver innovative solutions. Responsibilities

- Lead the identification and evaluation of emerging AI technologies, tools and methodologies, championing their strategic application to enhance product performance and scalability.
- Partner with researchers and product development teams to align cutting‑edge research with product roadmaps, ensuring technologies translate into practical, scalable solutions.
- Bring new research‑backed solutions and approaches into production by applying long‑term research efforts to solve product needs.
- Provide deep technical expertise across design, analytics/modeling, dataset development, code reviews, development, quality assurance, and observability, setting standards and mentoring teams.
- Help drive the team’s strategic vision and align it with the overall company objectives.
- Foster a culture of inclusivity, disciplined engineering and data‑driven decision‑making, promoting best practices that drive innovation and business value.
- Create and sustain an effective team culture, valuing high‑trust collaboration and continuous learning.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering (or related field) AND 4+ years of related experience.
- OR Master’s Degree in the same fields AND 3+ years of related experience.
- OR Doctorate in the same fields AND 1+ year(s) of related experience.
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of professional experience in ML, including designing, developing, testing, and shipping software in a full software development lifecycle.
- Proficiency in Large Language Models (LLMs), including experience with training, fine‑tuning, and deploying LLMs for various applications.
- Solid problem‑solving skills and the ability to design approaches to solve significant business problems across groups and disciplines.

Other Requirements

- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

- Familiarity with state‑of‑the‑art LLM architectures and techniques, such as transformer models, attention mechanisms, and transfer learning.
- Experience with statistical modeling and deep learning, especially with frameworks such as PyTorch, Huggingface Transformers, Diffusers.
- Expertise in one or more subareas (e.g., Object Recognition, Text Classification) and a broad understanding of research areas.
- Fluency in Python, C#, and TypeScript.
