Offer description

We are looking for people to join our team and play their own crucial part in the dynamic world of State Sport Centres. Our people and our venues are the heartbeat of premier multi‐sport facilities in Victoria, dedicated to fostering peak performance, unlocking potential, and delivering world‐class events. State Sport Centres are more than just facilities, we're the driving force behind sport and recreation enthusiasts reaching new heights. We exist to fuel passion, inspire excellence, and contribute to the well‐being of the Victorian community. Join the team that transforms the sports landscape and creates a legacy of excitement, engagement, and inspiration.

About the role:

We're searching for a confident, experienced leader ready to contribute to the success of one of Melbourne's leading sports and event venues.

The Operations Manager at MSAC plays a pivotal role in ensuring smooth daily operations, exceptional venue presentation and supporting the delivery of world‐class events. Reporting to the Senior Venue Manager, you will lead an operational team, oversee the delivery of high‐profile events, and cultivate strong stakeholder relationships while upholding safety, risk management and customer service standards.

This is a highly visible, hands‐on leadership role. You'll be present on the floor, supporting your team, guiding major operations, and solving problems in real time. Success in this role comes from influence, collaboration, and strong relationships—not command‐and‐control leadership.

As the Operations Manager at MSAC your primary responsibilities will include:
* Overseeing daily operations, including event setup, venue presentation and preparation and risk/safety management
* Leading, coaching, and mentoring a skilled team - including Duty Managers and operational staff to empower high performance, service excellence, and a values‐driven culture
* Managing day to day stakeholder relationships with hirers, sports partners and service providers
* Championing a culture of safety by proactively upholding all health, safety, emergency, and risk management standards to ensure every person in the venue feels supported and protected.
* Driving financial performance through effective budget and expense management
* Demonstrating a strong customer focus, ensuring every team member, patron, partner, or athlete feels respected, supported, and valued
A bit about you. You bring:
* Proven leadership and people management experience in operations, preferably in a sporting, event or venue environment - where you've inspired teams, elevated performance, and delivered outstanding results.
* The skills and qualities of a collaborative leader who listens first, asks thoughtful questions, and leads through influence, support, and example, not commanding orders.
* Strong knowledge of health, safety and risk management practices
* Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication, and negotiation skills
* Experience in planning, contractor management, workforce development, and building strong internal and external relationships that nurture trust and teamwork.
* Experience in event planning, contractor management, and workforce development
* A results‐orientation in your leadership with a focus on continuous improvement.
* A passion for and genuine enjoyment in coaching and developing people and helping others grow
Required skills and Qualifications:
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related discipline
* Current Victorian Working with Children's Check (Employee)
* First Aid, CPR and Advanced Resuscitation certifications
* Victorian Driver's License
* Current Working with Children Check
Why is this a great place to work?

You will love working at the State Sports Centres. Here's just a few reasons why:

* Great staff benefits including free parking, gym membership, discounts at SSC food & beverage and retail outlets and complimentary court hire for casual bookings across the stadiums
* Family discounts on gym membership
* Discounted access to holiday activities for dependents
* You will be surrounded by elite athletes daily, supporting a wide range of elite sports and world class events, as well as community sport and recreation
* You will be challenged daily and can develop yourself as a person as well as gaining valuable career skills
* We have a fantastic team of people who are great to work with.
* Join us in our mission to help people feel excited about sport, engage in healthy activity and feel inspired to be their best
