About the role:
Reporting to the Brand Manager, the Technical Graphic Designer – Packaging is responsible for the design, development, and technical preparation of packaging artwork for a diverse range of products. This role goes beyond traditional graphic design by integrating a strong understanding of product specifications, retail compliance, and production processes to ensure packaging is both visually compelling and production-ready.
Whilst this role reports to the Brand Manager, we operate as one national team, so you will be part of a broader team of professionals. You will enjoy being innovative and thinking outside the box, be comfortable to respectfully challenge the norm, and be responsible for overseeing our warehouse operations, ensuring efficiency, safety and accuracy in all aspects of inventory management and distribution. This is a critical leadership position focused on maintaining high service standards and operational excellence in a fast-paced environment.
What you will need to do:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Packaging Design & Development
* Design and develop packaging artwork in line with brand guidelines and product requirements.
* Collaborate with product managers and engineers to ensure packaging aligns with product specifications and intended use.
Technical Artwork Preparation
* Prepare and check artwork files for pre-press and production, ensuring accuracy and compliance with supplier requirements.
* Liaise with offshore suppliers to ensure artwork is production-ready and meets technical standards.
Product & Industry Knowledge
* Maintain a working knowledge of plumbing and irrigation principles to ensure packaging accurately reflects product functionality and usage.
* Interpret technical product data and translate it into clear, consumer-friendly packaging design.
Retail Compliance & Standards
* Ensure packaging meets the requirements of major retail partners, including Bunnings and similar chains.
* Apply knowledge of GS1 standards to ensure barcode accuracy and compliance with retailer systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Work closely with marketing, product development, and supply chain teams to align packaging with broader business objectives.
* Support the integration of packaging into retail systems and planograms.
Health Safety & Wellbeing
* Ensure adherence to health and safety guidelines as well as legal obligations
EDUCATION SKILLS & CAPABILITIES
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Expertise:
* 3+ years of Graphic Design experience
* Proven experience in packaging design, preferably in a technical or industrial product category.
* Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
* Understanding of pre-press processes and production requirements for packaging.
* Familiarity with GS1 barcode standards and retail compliance.
* Basic understanding of plumbing and irrigation systems is highly desirable.
* Experience working with or designing for major retailers such as Bunnings.
* Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Ensure compliance to all legislative requirements (Trade Practices) and ethical standards.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to be a team player
* Good problem-solving skills with a pro-active attitude
