What the role is

Our Townsville branch is searching for a skilled technician with a minimum of 1 year experience, or a higher skilled technician, that wishes to take the next step in their career, or a change.

The position will vary depending on experience and competencies. Internal & external training and coaching will be provided. The role is a hands-on position that includes performing the tests, supervision of staff with a high focus on efficiencies & quality.

You will be responsible for tasks based on your competencies and may include:

* Perform all laboratory tests in accordance with appropriate standards;
* Train and supervise technicians to carry out tests as per approved procedures, measurements and calculations;
* Check and test the accuracy of testing and measuring equipment, computer hardware and software and commission new equipment as required;
* Regular inspection and calibration of test equipment;
* Check and approve test reports;
* Program testing in consultation with the Laboratory Manager;
* Ensure safe working procedures are adhered to at all times;
* Ensure laboratory efficiencies are maintained;

About you

We require a team player who communicates effectively, possesses a high level of initiative, flexibility and enthusiasm. The ideal candidate will possess the following:

* Experience in soil, aggregate, rock, grout and concrete testing in accordance with Australian and Main Roads test methods (QLD) is preferred however not essential;
* Experience in Level 1 & Level 2 Earthworks testing and inspections to AS3798;
* Demonstrated capability to supervise and train technicians;
* Demonstrated competence with lab result analysis and reporting;
* Ability to confidently explain testing procedures and results to internal and external stakeholders;
* Calibration and maintain equipment inventory;
* Willingness to complete a Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques, Diploma or Degree-qualified;
* Nuclear Radiation Gauge Licence and WHS White Card
* Australian Driver's licence is essential;
* Previous NATA signatory experience would be highly advantageous.
* Nuclear gauge licence is desirable.
