Finance Manager – Government | Sydney, NSW The Opportunity We are partnering with a NSW Government department seeking a Finance Manager to join their team in Sydney. This is a key role within a high-performing finance function, offering the opportunity to lead core transactional finance operations while driving process improvement and supporting ongoing transformation initiatives. The Role Reporting into senior leadership, you will oversee day-to-day finance operations across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and general ledger activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. Alongside BAU responsibilities, you will play a critical role in enhancing processes and contributing to large-scale transformation projects, including system upgrades and data migration initiatives. Key Responsibilities Manage end-to-end transactional finance functions (AP, AR, GL) Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and month-end close processes Lead and develop a small team, driving accountability and performance Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and controls Support and contribute to system implementations, upgrades, and data migrations Strengthen financial controls and ensure compliance with government standards Partner with internal stakeholders to resolve issues and improve financial processes About You Proven experience as a Finance Manager or similar role within a complex organisation Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of financial controls Hands-on experience in process improvement and finance transformation initiatives Exposure to system implementations, upgrades, or data migration projects A proactive, self-starting mindset with strong problem-solving capability Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on within a transactional environment Government experience highly regarded, though not essential What’s on Offer Opportunity to join a stable and purpose-driven government organisation Exposure to large-scale transformation projects Collaborative and supportive team environment Flexible working arrangements This role is ideal for a technically strong Finance Manager who enjoys improving how things are done and wants to play a key role in driving change within a complex environment.
