We're currently seeking a Senior Microbiologist to join our Stafford Environmental team in Brisbane. You'll play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality microbiological testing, while also helping grow and strengthen client & staff relationships.
The day to day
In this role, you'll:
* Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, lead the daily operations of the microbiology section, supporting and working with other ALS Environmental departments
* Conduct routine microbiological analysis in line with ALS procedures and NATA accreditation requirements
* Review and report data accurately, ensuring results meet client expectations and turnaround timeframes
* Calibrate and maintain lab equipment, keeping everything audit-ready
* Support emergency response work and flexible working hours when required
* Act as a point of contact for key clients, helping to grow and promote ALS Environmental services in Brisbane
* Mentor and guide junior microbiologists and support team development
* Ensure all testing is conducted according to work instructions and comply with NATA requirements
* Develop and validate new methodology and analytical testing
* Participate in and promote a strong HSE focused culture
* Become a NATA accredited signatory for review and final sign off of microbiology results
The essentials
To thrive in this role, you'll bring:
* A relevant science degree or tertiary qualification, preferably Microbiology
* Experience in water microbiology (NATA lab experience highly regarded)
* Leadership skills with the ability to manage a team and drive operational excellence
* Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and attention to detail
* Great time management and the ability to juggle priorities in a fast-paced lab environment
* A team-first attitude with excellent communication and client service skills
* A proactive, flexible approach to learning and growth
* Ability to work weekend and public holidays as and when required
