Maranoa Regional Council is seeking a practical, community‐minded Rural Land Services Officer to support and protect the region's rural industry. You'll work alongside landholders and State agencies to keep stock routes functioning, pests controlled and rural land productive. This role has variety, autonomy and real impact.
What You'll Be Doing Pest Management (Weeds and Pest Animals)
* Deliver weed control programmes in line with Council's Biosecurity Plan and the Biosecurity Act.
* Work with landholders to manage priority weeds.
* Assist with pest animal control, including wild dog and feral animal programmes.
* Support coordinated baiting programmes, including field work and record keeping.
* Manage 1080 records and compliance requirements.
* Process wild dog scalp payments in line with Council policy.
* Provide practical advice to landholders on wild dog management, including tools like FeralScan.
Stock Routes and Water Facilities
* Support administration of the Stock Route Management Act and Council's Stock Route Management Plan.
* Inspect stock routes, water points and pasture conditions.
* Maintain and repair infrastructure including fencing, water facilities and signage.
* Assist with capital works projects on stock routes.
* Help manage straying stock on roads and Council land.
* Maintain accurate records in the Stock Route Management System.
Plant and Equipment Operations
* Safely operate and maintain vehicles, spraying equipment and small machinery.
* Complete required inductions and competency checks.
* Maintain plant and equipment records in line with Council systems.
Community Education and Support
* Support landholders to improve land management practices.
* Assist with community education on biosecurity, weeds and pest animals.
* Provide advice to other Council departments on rural land issues.
* Represent Council in local rural and biosecurity forums.
Compliance and Investigations
* Conduct inspections under relevant legislation and Council policies.
* Issue permits and infringement notices where required.
* Prepare clear reports and support enforcement actions.
What You'll Bring
* Experience in a rural or livestock environment
* Practical knowledge of pest plant and animal control
* Understanding of stock route operations and compliance requirements
* Experience working outdoors in challenging conditions
* Skills in rural water infrastructure maintenance
* Knowledge of safe chemical and poison handling
* Strong communication and report writing skills
* A practical, community‐focused approach
Mandatory Requirements
(Local government experience is advantageous but not essential.)
Must hold, or obtain within 6 months
* C Class Driver Licence
* Queensland Health approval for 1080 and Strychnine
* ACDC Chemical Accreditation
* White Card
* Q Fever, Hepatitis B and ABLV (Rabies) vaccinations
* Weapons Licence (Category A & B)
* Humane Destruction of Animals training
Desirable
Qualifications in Land Management, Applied Science or similar.
