Job Title: Carer Peer Support Worker – Mental Health at The Alfred
We are looking for a Carer Peer Worker to work in partnership with our clinical team to provide support to family members or other carers in the network of the consumer. Carers/family members and friends often provide the main safety net and support system for a consumer. Evidence shows that when carers/family and friends are involved with services, outcomes for consumers improve.
Employment Details
Part-time (48 hours per fortnight)
Lived Experience Worker Level 2 – Year 1-4 (MP32-MP35)

Responsibilities
Minimise the impact of complex mental health issues on carers and significant others of consumers within the service.
Support the engagement of carers, families and significant others with the service to enhance the process of recovery for consumers experiencing serious suicidal ideation.
Essential Qualifications
A personal lived experience of caring for a family member or someone with mental health challenges.
Highly Regarded Qualifications
Formal qualifications are not mandatory for this role but may be helpful (Certificate IV in Peer Work, Certificate IV in Mental Health, Intentional Peer Support training).
Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or equivalent, or willingness to complete this within 12 months.
Experience working in a peer support role.
Experience of the public or private mental health system.
Experience facilitating family/carer support groups.
Australian working rights and current influenza vaccination.
Willingness to complete a police check.
