The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) is the Australian Government's primary authority on radiation protection and nuclear safety. Our purpose is to protect the Australian people and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation, through understanding risks, best practice regulation, research, policy, services, partnerships and engaging with the community.
Section overview
The Radiochemistry and Environmental Sciences Laboratory is responsible for ARPANSA's laboratories, field measurement capabilities and networks that are required for the measurement of ionising and non-ionising radiation in people and the environment. This includes maintenance of ARPANSA's radiation emergency response capabilities and networks, and laboratories under national and international arrangements.
Primary purpose of the role
In this role, you will work under limited direction and play a key role in supporting the delivery of ARPANSA's environmental radiation monitoring programs through high-quality radiochemical analysis and laboratory operations. You will contribute to the implementation and maintenance of quality assurance systems, laboratory accreditation, and regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for performing complex radiochemical analyses, maintaining laboratory records, and supporting the integration of digital systems as Deputy Administrator for the Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). You will also contribute to ARPANSA's emergency preparedness capability by ensuring laboratory procedures and data systems are maintained and ready to support national response efforts. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality scientific outcomes. Domestic and/or international travel and field work may be required.
