Dental Technician (Orthodontics)

The provision of Orthodontic dental technology services to clinical prescription for patients, staff and students at the Dental Hospital.
Training and development will be given as necessary.
Main duties of the job
* Construct simple Orthodontic appliances.
* Construct Plaster Working and Study models.
Job responsibilities
* Advise/Assist clinical undergraduates on orthodontic technical problems relating to patient treatment. Adjustments will be required to be made at chairside by the technician.
* Plan and co-ordinate personal work allocation on a day-to-day basis. This will involve ensuring all appointment dates are met and the keeping of up to date records of all work allocated.
* Assess individual units of work (prior to construction) for possible technical/clinical complications and report when necessary.
* Assist with the day-to-day running of the laboratory and assist clinical and nursing staff with collection of completed work.
* Maintain general cleanliness/organisation of work areas.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Fully Qualified dental technician holding a BTEC Diploma/BSc in Dental Technology or equivalent
* Evidence of GDC registration and continuous professional development
* Nationally recognised advanced qualification at HNC/HND level or equivalent specialising in Orthodontics or equivalent experience
Experience
* Demonstrable previous experience of working in a Dental Hospital Laboratory or Private Laboratory if qualification cited is BTEC
Skills
* Competentintheconstructionof Orthodontic appliances, partial dentures and orthognathic trimmed study models.
* Ability to work as a member of the dental team
* Good communication skills both oral and written
* Ability to prioritise own workload
