Full time, continuing positionOpportunity to provide expert technical support to students and researchers using the facilities of the Design Modelling and Fabrication Lab (DMaF Lab) in the School of Architecture, Design and PlanningLead a technical support team to develop the prototyping and design capabilities in the School, and help users navigate the resources and technologyBase Salary from $108,557 + 17% superannuationAbout the opportunityThe Digital Fabrication Lab Coordinator is a Senior Technical Support team lead based in the University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning. This role will manage the Digital Fabrication facilities and staffing of the Design Modelling and Fabrication Lab (DMaF Lab), including 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, robotics and other digital technologies associated with design and fabrication.This role provides leadership, guidance and support to staff in the work area, solves complex technical challenges, and manages an exciting and evolving area focused on digital fabrication.The role is based in the Design Modelling and Fabrication Lab, a space in the School of Architecture, Design and Planning that supports a diverse community of designers and learners to prototype their ideas, tackle design challenges, and experiment with new techniques through the provision of industry leading technology and technical support.Your key responsibilities will be to:oversee day-to-day operation of the Digital Fabrication Lab, developing the facility to ensure the work area meets the technical teaching, learning and research support needs of the Schoolcoordinate and provide specialist digital fabrication services, training and support to students, researchers and other technical staff in a range of digital fabrication focused technology, including CAD and CAMmanage a team of technical staff including ongoing, casual and student assistant positionsensure compliance with work health and safety standardsdevelop technical instruction material and collaborate with academic staff to provide excellent teaching support and support student experiencedeliver service excellence to the stakeholders of the School.About youan expert background in digital fabrication and making, who has leadership and administrative skills and is ready to lead a technical support team to deliver service excellence.strong organisation and time management abilities - they will be planning and coordinating a roster of casual staff and working with multiple stakeholders across the Schoolable to negotiate with academic staff, provide support to their team, and will oversee student communications from the laba supportive, team-focused and collaborative approach to their workhigh level computer skills, including design software, CAD and CAM with the ability to learn, master and instruct new software as requiredproficiency with excel and able to operate a range of scheduling and record keeping systemsdedicated to teaching and learning; designing and running in-person inductions as well as developing online resources for the labensure Workplace Health and Safety compliance across their work area, and is responsible for making sure the work area operates efficiently and effectively.previous experience in tertiary education technical support and in fabrication or design focused roles is essential.Cover LetterPlease address the following criteria in your cover letter:This role is critical in providing technical support for both teaching and research undertaken in the School of Architecture, Design and Planning.
