About the role:
The Technology Operations team is currently seeking an Engineer Communications to join them on an 8/6 Roster based at the Hancock Iron Ore (HIO) Contract Mine Sites which include Sanjiv Ridge and McPhee. Reporting to the Superintendent Site Technology, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, high availability and efficient operation of Hancock Iron Ore's Radio Frequency (RF) networks.
Duties:
* Manage and ensure optimal operation of all network and communications infrastructure, primarily In-Pit WiFi, TETRA and LTE
* Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation
* Ensure service level agreements are monitored and enforced
* Perform network performance testing and provide network performance statistics and regular reports to the Technology leadership team
* Plan, acquire, and coordinate installation of in-house and remote hardware and software across the organisation's network
* Contribute to the design and configuration of fixed, wireless, and mobile security countermeasures, including personal firewalls, encryption, and associated security technologies
* Conduct research and make recommendations on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts
* Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services
* Assess, approve, and administer all equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
Skills and Experience:
* Minimum of a Certificate IV, Trade Certificate or Diploma in a Technology related field which is in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework or extensively demonstrated experience in similar roles
* Experience in a networking and communications support role in mining or similar engineering intensive industries
* Experience in RF planning and RF planning tools; RF Desktop studies, path profiling and link budgeting for WiFi, Microwave, TETRA, LTE environments
* Technical understanding of Layer 2 and 3 Networks
* Experience managing RF spectrum allocations and fleet maps.
