The
**Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry** works to enhance our agricultural, fisheries and forestry industries. We manage biosecurity risks to Australia to protect our multi-billion dollar agricultural industries and our way of life.

The
**Biosecurity Operations Division (BOD)** takes a regulatory approach to the implementation of effective border controls to manage biosecurity threats. The division delivers its functions across defined pathways, including cargo, mail, conveyances, food, and travellers. Border controls include, but are not limited to inspection, assessment, policy setting, community engagement, and contact centre services. The division also provides husbandry services for animals and plants through its post entry quarantine facility.

**Travellers and Mail Operations Pathway**
The Travellers and Mail Operations Pathway delivers regulatory screening and inspections of goods, at the border to verify compliance with Australia's biosecurity requirements. Travellers and Mail Operations Pathway works with policy and risk owners within the department to influence and inform operational policy and deliver regulatory functions in accordance with legislative requirements, national standards, and a risk-based operating model. The pathway has a national footprint with a presence in all capital cities.

Travellers and Mail Operations Pathway includes positions in international airports and mail facilities.

**Cargo Operations Pathway**
The Cargo Operations Pathway within BOD delivers regulatory assessment and inspections of goods, across the biosecurity continuum (offshore, at the border and onshore) to verify compliance with Australia's biosecurity requirements, as well as being the first point of contact to the department. Cargo Operations works with policy and risk owners within the department to influence and inform operational policy and deliver regulatory functions in accordance with legislative requirements, national standards and within an integrated, risk-based operating model. The group has a national footprint with a presence in all capital cities and major regional ports.

Cargo Operations Pathway includes positions in the Client Contact Group, Cargo Assessments and Cargo Inspections.

**Conveyances Pathway - Maritime Operations**
The Conveyances Pathway - Maritime Operations within BOD delivers regulatory assessment and inspections of arriving international vessels to ensure compliance with Australia's Biosecurity requirements. Conveyances pathway - Maritime Operations works with policy teams within the department to influence and inform operational policy and deliver regulatory functions in accordance with legislative requirements. The pathway has a national footprint with a presence in all capital cities and major regional ports.

Conveyances Pathway - Maritime Operations includes positions in the National Maritime Centre and Maritime Inspections nationally.

**Role and duties**
The Team Leader will supervise staff to support the achievement of operational outcomes in line with the department's business objectives in a regulatory environment.

The successful applicant will:

- influence and contribute to change, while contributing to business planning and decision-making processes
- lead innovatively while providing support to and manage teams in a regulatory environment
- lead, manage and support staff in a regulatory operational environment
- possess (or an ability to gain) knowledge or an understanding of the department's role in delivering national biosecurity operations
- deliver a range of written products using high level writing skills
- use electronic databases and demonstrate computer literacy
- effectively coach and mentor staff
- facilitate and support a positive team environment
- work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team
