Mount Isa Mines is seeking suitably qualified and experienced internal applicants for the role of Leading Hand, reporting to the Production Supervisors within the Laboratory Tech Services & Planning team. You will be responsible for effectively managing and leading a crew of staff on a shift basis. This role is to support the direction of your direct supervisor, ensuring the primary business needs of the laboratory are met in a timely manner, whilst adhering to the required quality standard set out in the laboratories NATA accreditation guidelines.
This is a Mount Isa residential position, and you will be required to work in accordance with a 4on/4off, day/night roster.
You will be responsible for:
* Reporting data in a timely manner to the laboratory clients
* Ensuring the data releases complies with the pre-set quality criteria
* Effectively communicating the routine maintenance requirements of equipment to ensure a high level of equipment up-time
* Maintaining an understanding of the operation, maintenance and calibration of the analytical systems used within the team
* Regularly conforming to customers pre-set turnaround times
* Verifying data and checking compliance of QC data
* Documenting compliance to sample prep quality procedures when requested
* Maintaining a clear understanding of general customer expectations
* Maintaining competency levels of staff as detailed by the competency chart system
* Managing of staff labour coverage and compliance to mandatory training
* Ensuring the cross training of staff is in place to cover the range of analysis and requirements when staff leave is in effect
* Managing staff sign-off and understanding of the laboratory RA’s and JSEA’s
You will have the following:
* Tertiary Qualifications in Science or Chemistry desirable.
* Demonstrated experience in a similar role with at least 7 years.
* Previous experience with AAS, ICP, XRF and Metallurgical Analytical Techniques
* A strong knowledge of application of analytical chemistry in a mining environment
* A proficient knowledge of NATA Quality Management Systems
* A strong focus on implementing and monitoring QAQC protocols
* Experience with LIMS systems in particular Labware
* An excellent understanding of safety in the workplace in accordance with Mining and Quarrying Act and Regulations, and how that applies to a laboratory environment.
* Ability to work within a team environment.
* Excellent communication skills
* Strong leadership qualities
* Manual drivers licence
