Role
Financial Accountant (GRS26023) — Permanent Appointment.
As a Financial Accountant, your key remit will be the delivery of financial reporting and accounting advice. You will undertake financial analysis, gather and monitor financial data, undertake end of month journals and reconciliations, produce the annual Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) report, assist in the preparation of financial statements, ongoing reporting requirements and annual declarations for internal and external purposes. Other key tasks include establishing and maintaining effective communication across government and with the department, managing the debt ledger, and undertaking reviews and processes and procedures.
Responsibilities
* Deliver financial reporting and accounting advice as part of the Finance Directorate, supporting the department's strategic and operational objectives.
* Conduct financial analysis, gather and monitor financial data, perform end of month journals and reconciliations.
* Produce the annual Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) report and assist in preparing financial statements, ongoing reporting requirements and annual declarations for internal and external purposes.
* Establish and maintain effective communication across government and with the department; manage the debt ledger; review and improve processes and procedures.
* Demonstrate analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills related to financial and tax issues.
Qualifications / Eligibility
* Possession of a tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance.
* Membership or eligibility for membership of CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, or other recognised professional accounting body.
* Demonstrated experience in financial accounting, reporting, and analysis including tax-related matters, and proficiency in financial management/accounting software.
* Understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, Financial Management Act 2006, Treasurer's Instructions and Australian taxation laws.
