About the Role
As a Disability Support Worker based at Port Pirie, you’ll play a vital role in the planning and provision of a responsive client and family-centred service, providing Hub and In-Home supports. You will empower individuals to live independently, make their own choices, and actively participate in their communities. Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Delivering tailored support to individuals with low to high-level needs, based on training and program outcomes
- Assisting with daily living activities such as personal care, medication, cooking, cleaning, appointments, and recreational outings
- Promoting community inclusion and helping clients build meaningful relationships and interests
- Encouraging positive routines and behaviours in a respectful and flexible manner.
- Monitoring and supporting individual program plans and report outcomes
- Safely assisting with mobility and physical support needs
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Lived or professional experience in working with people with disability is highly regarded
- Experience in communicating effectively and establishing rapport with children, young people or adults with complex issues, their families and broader stakeholders
- Ability to relate to people from a variety of cultural, language, social and economic backgrounds
- Ability to support individuals in a manner that shows respect, increases independence, facilitates effective communication and self-respect
- A strong commitment to client wellbeing and person-centred care
- Ability to interpret and act on individual health care plans, communication needs, and mealtime guidelines
- Confidence in identifying and responding to health concerns, and accurately documenting observations
- Competence in administering prescribed medication and maintaining accurate records
- High attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping
- A positive attitude and enthusiasm for promoting Novita’s mission in the community
- A commitment to safe work practices and WHS standards
What You’ll Need Before Starting
- Certificate III in Disability, Community Services (or equivalent) is required, however, applicants who are enrolled in or are willing to work toward this qualification are encouraged to apply
- A current driver’s licence (minimum P2 required)
- Achievement of certain certifications are mandatory requirements for this role; in applying you must be willing to undertake training in fields such as medication management, NDIS Worker Orientation Modules, CPR and others
- The successful applicant may be required to work Shift Work, (24/7 Roster), In-Home, In-Hub and in other community settings
- SA Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Check will be required before commencement
