Senior data engineering manager

Data is a big deal at Atlassian. We ingest billions of events monthly into analytical platforms, with dozens of teams across the company depending on data platforms. We are seeking a Senior Data Engineering Manager to join the Enterprise Data Engineering organization. In this role, you will lead a high-performing team of engineers focused on designing, building, and scaling foundational analytical data products that power decision-making across the company. You will partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to define data strategies, improve data quality and reliability, and deliver reusable data models, pipelines, and platforms that enable analytics at scale. This is a critical leadership role at the intersection of data architecture, engineering excellence, and business impact.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or related field; 6-8+ years of experience as an individual contributor in a Data Engineering or related Software Engineering role.
• 4+ years of experience managing data or related software teams.
• Track record delivering large, complex projects across multiple teams.
• Strong communication and cross-team relationship skills.
• Experience with large-scale, high-performance data processing systems (batch and streaming) with a "Streaming First" mindset.
• People management skills leading agile data or software teams; passion for grooming talent.
• Drive for technical excellence, innovation, and quality.
• Experience with public cloud offerings (AWS, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, S3, Databricks, Spark/Spark-Streaming).

• Experience with Python or another high-level language.
• Understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Experience with Tableau or other reporting tools.
• Basic understanding of experimentation.
