Primary objective
Assist with the development and monitoring of the Agency's budget, analyse financial data and provide clear and meaningful
reports and advice to relevant divisions, branches and relevant stakeholders.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist the Portfolio Financial Analysis team with the development of budgets, forward estimates of revenue and
expenditure and uploading and validating data in budgets and reporting systems.
2. Provide financial and operational support to the Portfolio Financial Analysis team in the Department.
3. Assist to undertake detailed financial analysis, monitor expenditure and revenue, examine budget versus actuals trends,
and prepare reports to provide meaningful and timely advice to key stakeholders and other management as required.
4. Assist the Portfolio Financial Analysis team to run ad hoc reports, create and upload Smartlink journals, raise invoices
and ledger funds transfers and prepare financial reports and information to support effective management decisions.
5. Assist in the development, maintenance, and monitoring of the Department of Health's
budget in the whole of government APEX budget management system and the Department of Health Budget and
Forward Estimates Management System including quality control reconciliations.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. High-level interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with finance staff, program managers and
external clients at all levels.
2. Ability to analyse and evaluate programs, statistics and Agency budgetary inputs, including both revenue and
expenditure, to determine financial implications and assemble data clearly and concisely.
3. Sound knowledge of accounting and financial principles, practices and standards.
4. Problem solving and investigation skills, high attention to detail, ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
5. Demonstrated relevant experience working in a dynamic and rapidly changing work environment, with the ability to
respond to anticipate and manage change.
6. Well-developed competency in the effective use of information technology, in particular, spreadsheet and database
applications.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in accounting, business, commerce or related discipline.
2. Experience with government financial management systems.
