The Role
The ALS Hydrographics Team in Scoresby, Victoria are seeking ambitious applicants for the position of Assistant Hydrographer within the environmental monitoring team.
The successful candidate will receive on-the-job training as well as enrolment and support to complete a Diploma of Water Operations (Hydrography).
This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated person to join a dynamic company that can offer both on-the-job training and industry package (hydrography) training to the right candidate, creating a rewarding career path.
The day to day
Responsibilities Include
Hands on role, with a strong focus on teamwork, reliability and initiative
Routine visitation and maintenance of remote environmental monitoring sites, consisting mainly of stream flow monitoring stations
Collect and verify environmental data using various software packages and scientific instruments
Assistance in completing other project and routine works as required
Accurate Record keeping including field notes, photographs and maps
Assisting in the upgrade of old, and installation of new environmental monitoring stations
Use of a wide range of hand tools including manual excavation for extended periods of time
The essentials
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:
Tertiary qualification in environmental science, water resources or similar (desirable).
High level attention to detail, strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Professional oral and written communication skills.
Able to work cohesively in a team environment.
Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Able to work in a variety of environmental conditions including short periods away from home.
Ability to perform manual handling tasks in a wide range of outdoor conditions.
Some experience in the use of hand and power tools.
Current manual car driver's licence.
4WD experience.
Experience with health, safety and environmental aspects of field work.
Ability to swim.
