Contract Management Specialist – Local Government (Melton, VIC)

We are now seeking an experienced and motivated Contract Management Specialist to support a high-performing local government organisation in Melton. This role is ideal for a contract professional ready to elevate processes, enhance governance, and shape system improvements within a dynamic team. Ready Contracts experience is essential.
Key responsibilities:
* Acting as the organisation's primary expert in contract management and providing high-level strategic and operational advice.
* Supporting the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of a new Contract Management System (CMS).
* Assisting in the creation and enhancement of contract management frameworks, policies, templates, and procedures.
* Coordinating contract activities end-to-end, including extensions, variations, evaluations and re-tendering recommendations.
* Ensuring the integrity, transparency, and consistency of contract management processes across all departments.
* Monitoring compliance with regulatory, legislative, and organisational requirements.
* Identifying risks and emerging issues early, applying strong analytical skills to recommend effective mitigation strategies.
* Providing guidance to staff on contractual obligations, performance expectations, and governance requirements.
* Working with internal legal teams to support the resolution of complex or sensitive supplier issues.
* Analysing data from multiple sources to build contract management intelligence that supports strategic decision-making.
* Preparing reports, insights, and recommendations that highlight trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
* Collaborating with procurement, finance, legal, auditors, suppliers, and operational teams to ensure cohesive contract outcomes.
* Navigating competing priorities and stakeholder expectations with professionalism, resilience, and political awareness.
* Supporting colleagues with advice and coaching on supplier governance, performance monitoring, and best-practice contract management.
* Promoting and upholding Work Health & Safety (WHS) requirements across all contract-related activities.
Key selection criteria:
* Degree or diploma in procurement, law, commerce or related discipline, or extensive equivalent experience
* Demonstrated experience in contract management, ideally within a service delivery or public sector environment
* Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
* Experience monitoring supplier performance and implementing governance arrangements
* Alignment with public sector values and commitment to community-focused outcomes
* Ready Contracts experience is essential
