Opportunity
As a Senior Associate in the Real Estate team, you will be responsible for running and managing significant capital and development transactions from start to finish, developing key client relationships and mentoring junior lawyers and support staff. You will work with John Frangi (Partner and Co-Head of Sydney office) on complex real estate transactions across various asset classes, while maintaining a client‐facing role that increases your exposure to high‐profile clients and significant transactions across different Australian jurisdictions.
What You Will Be Working On
* Acquisitions and disposals of large format retail shopping centres on behalf of sellers and buyers, including associated due diligence.
* Acquisitions of alternative real estate assets and associated due diligence, including commercial marinas.
* Development management agreements and joint venture arrangements relating to the development and sale of residential, retail and other mixed‐use assets.
* Negotiating agreements for lease and leases on behalf of landlords and tenants in the large format supermarket, industrial and childcare sectors.
* Negotiating the real estate aspects of significant corporate M&A transactions and liaising with members of the Corporate Team to finalise key M&A transaction documentation.
* Negotiating and finalising sale contracts on behalf of insolvency practitioners for distressed real estate transactions (including receivers and managers, administrators and liquidators).
* Ad‐hoc advice to clients in relation to property law issues.
Preferred Requirements
* Minimum 5 years PQE
* Ability to provide advice to clients in a commercial and pragmatic fashion
* Experience acting for developers and institutional land owners in relation to the acquisition, development and sale of real estate assets across different asset classes (including by way of development management or joint venture arrangements)
* Ability to delegate work effectively across various team members with a view to completing transactions smoothly and efficiently
* Desire to work towards partnership
* Excellent legal drafting skills
* Ability to confidently interact with clients and lawyers acting for counterparties (including for the purpose of preparing, negotiating and finalising key transaction documentation) with minimal partner supervision
* Experience using PEXA for the purpose of facilitating online e‐conveyancing settlements
* Welcoming and respectful personality and a good sense of humour
