Role
* Manage the postgraduate medical education and training program and prevocational workforce within Launceston General Hospital (LGH) ensuring compliance with the Australian Medical Council (AMC) through the Postgraduate Medical Education Council of Tasmania (PMCT), liaising with specialist colleges and the University of Tasmania.
* Provide guidance and support to the junior medical workforce.
* Facilitate training and education sessions in accordance with Accreditation Standards.
* Maintain a fostering environment and pathway for junior doctors in liaison with PMCT.
Focus of Duties
* Provide direction and leadership for Surgical Services, responsible for effective and efficient surgical services, including financial oversight and maintenance of teaching and research.
Duties
* Overall responsibility for management of Surgical Services to provide an efficient and effective surgery service within Launceston General Hospital.
* Ensure that the Department of Surgery aspires to achieve best practice and be seen as a model for regional surgical services through excellence in governance and judicious application of the principles of evidence‐based practice.
* Ensure that the main Operating Room Suites and Day Procedure Unit areas provide an efficient and effective surgery, obstetrics, gynaecology and anaesthesia service.
* Overall responsibility for the management of surgical outpatient clinics to provide an efficient and effective service.
* Undertake a clinical surgical load in a relevant specialty as required.
* Responsible for inter‐ and intra‐departmental communication and partnership to ensure optimum patient care.
* Ensure effective management of all physical, financial and human resources within Surgical Services.
* Manage performance, development, supervision and education portfolios for medical staff within the Department of Surgery.
* Maintain accreditation in surgical disciplines with the relevant medical colleges.
* Participate in statewide strategic planning committees such as the Tasmanian Statewide Surgical Services Network Committee.
* Responsible for ensuring active involvement in safety and quality programs in line with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards by all Department of Surgery staff.
* Active involvement in the planning of ongoing and future surgical services and delivery at Launceston General Hospital and across the Northern Area.
* The incumbent may be allocated additional duties not specifically mentioned here that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected at this classification level.
Details of Appointment
* Fixed‐term, full‐time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a three‐year period (hours to be negotiated with successful applicant).
Salary and Benefits
Salary (Annual, pro‐rata)
* Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1–3: $216,300 – $310,389 per annum.
* Payment includes 12% superannuation and access to salary packaging.

Eligibility
* Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant speciality.
