The Role
We are seeking a motivated Trainee Field Technician/Hydrographer to join our Mackay-based North Queensland Operations team. This rare trainee opportunity offers hands-on experience, formal qualifications, and one-on-one mentoring to launch your career in hydrography.
You will learn how to install, maintain, and operate environmental monitoring stations, collect high-quality data, and support a range of water monitoring projects. As part of your development, you\'ll complete a Diploma of Water Operations (Hydrography) and gain industry-recognised training including 4WD and advanced first aid.
The Day to Day
* Support the installation, servicing, and maintenance of automatic environmental monitoring stations.
* Collect and verify environmental data using specialist software.
* Maintain accurate field records, observations, and calibrations.
* Help measure water flow in rivers, creeks, and drains.
* Assist with manual sampling from surface water and groundwater.
* Travel to remote regions of Queensland for short weekday trips.
The Essentials
* Interest in environmental monitoring, sampling, or hydrographic work
* Qualification in environmental science, water resources, or similar (desirable)
* Good organisational skills and attention to detail
* Willingness to work outdoors in varied conditions
* Ability to work well in a team and take guidance from mentors
* Ability to swim
* Eligible to enrol in the Diploma of Water Operations (Hydrography)
