About the role
We are looking for a hands-on SRE Manager to lead our infrastructure operations in a high-stakes environment. In this "Player-Coach" role, you will manage a small, capable team while maintaining operational ownership of a cloud domain that processes sensitive health and financial data.
Our platform has achieved greater than 99.998% uptime. However, as our customer base doubles, our focus must shift toward high resilience and scalable performance. You will be responsible for balancing the immediate needs of business as usual operations with long-term project changes, providing critical effort estimation to guide our roadmap.
What you'll do
Strategy (50%)
* People Management:
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 2-3 Site Reliability Engineers, fostering a strong DevOps culture.
* Workload prioritization:
Actively manage the team's backlog, balancing conflicting priorities between BAU system stability and new project feature work. You will provide effort estimation and technical scoping to project teams to ensure realistic delivery timelines.
* Cost Management (FinOps):
Own the financial review for critical AWS infrastructure, monitoring usage and driving initiatives to optimize cloud spend.
* Audit Support:
Provide technical inputs, evidence, and data to internal and external parties to support audit and control reviews (rather than owning the audit relationship directly).
* SLO Definition:
Collaborate with product leads to define and enforce Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Error Budgets
Technical Operations & Engineering (50%)
* Data Integrity & Security:
champion the protection of highly sensitive health and financial data. You will ensure the environment maintains high availability, integrity, and security by implementing strict access controls and encryption standards.
* Resilience & Recovery:
Architect for failure. You will own backup and recovery capabilities, ensuring our Disaster Recovery (DR) plans are robust, tested, and capable of restoring service swiftly in a crisis.
* Performance & Scaling:
Oversee performance efficiency and contribute to measurement techniques. You will lead capacity planning to ensure the platform scales ahead of our growth curve.
* Infrastructure as Code:
Hands-on contribution to the codebase, building and maintaining infrastructure using Terraform and AWS services.
* Operational Security:
Own the operation of key security controls (e.g., AWS GuardDuty, IAM). You will facilitate vulnerability assessments and review potential security issues.
* Incident Input:
Provide critical technical input and Root Cause Analysis to the Major Incident Management Team (MINT) regarding platform issues.
What you'll bring
You are a seasoned engineer who understands that in a Health/FinTech environment, "reliability" means ensuring data is never lost or corrupted. You are comfortable shifting gears between writing Terraform code and estimating effort for a quarterly roadmap.
* Leadership Experience:
Experience managing technical teams, with a track record of successfully balancing maintenance work with new feature delivery.
* AWS Expertise:
Extensive experience with Amazon Web Services, specifically regarding security, VPC networking, and recovery services.
* Data Sensitivity:
Experience working in regulated environments (HealthTech, FinTech, etc.) where data integrity and privacy are paramount.
* Infrastructure as Code:
Strong proficiency in Terraform and related scripting.
* Disaster Recovery:
Proven experience implementing backup strategies and testing recovery scenarios.
* Containerization:
Experience with Docker images and orchestration.
The Tech Stack
* Infrastructure:
AWS (100% cloud-hosted), Linux, MongoDB (Atlas), Postgres.
* Tooling:
